About Formula SAE

Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE, also known as SAE International). The competition has a long history and was started way back in 1978 at The University of Houston, Texas.

Today, the competition has expanded and is now held in a number of countries like Australia, Brazil, UK, Japan, Italy, Germany & India. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules, whose purpose is both ensuring on-track safety (the cars are driven by the students themselves) and promoting clever problem solving.

Formula SAE India

FORMULA SAE INDIA DESIGN CHALLENGE is being held on December 11th and 12th 2009 at Anna University in Chennai.
It is a historic event as it is the first time that a Formula SAE event is being organized in India. This will also be the first event in which our team, Bullethawk Racing will take part and we are determined and working with full dedication to leave a mark at the competition in our very first attempt.

The event is being organized by SAEINDIA, which has been successfully conducting Mini Baja Event in India for the past two years and is also taking the 2010 event to the Asian level.

With 27 teams from various colleges including IITs and NITs across the country participating to prove their technical know-how in this event, it is going to be a highly competitive couple of days. As the name suggests, Formula SAEINDIA Design Challenge will be a competition involving design evaluation and no dynamic events will take place i.e., only static evaluation of the car will be done. FSAE India competition that will include the dynamic events will take place in Jan 2011.

The event in December will involve stringent judging of the car in the following aspects and points will be awarded accordingly :-

Design presentation         50 pts
Design Report                100 pts
Design Evaluation
         150 pts
Total                              300 pts

The competition will be followed by the SAEINDIA Mobility Congress 2009 that will take place on 14th and 15th Dec 09 where the winners of the FSAE competition will be allowed to put up stalls to showcase their cars.
All of us at Bullethawk Racing are looking forward to Formula SAEINDIA 2009 and are working tirelessly with the aim to win the competition and make our college proud.
